We call the Unity Online Radio (UOR) Network “The Voice of an Awakening World.” As a Unity minister or licensed Unity teacher, your own voice could be added to the transformative mix of provocative, uplifting and inspiring programs we offer.
Unity minister Rev Paulette Pipe began hosting her own UOR program, Touching the Stillness, on Election Day 2008. While Paulette had no formal radio training, she wanted to be a part of UOR when it launched as unity.fm in 2007.
“This is my ministry,” Paulette says, explaining that she left her full-time job at Unity Village to launch Touching the Stillness Ministries. Her UOR program, a mix of prayer and meditation, is one of her favorite aspects of her ministry, she says.
“I know Charles Fillmore would be in his element with Internet radio if he were around today,” Paulette says. “I just felt as though the subject of meditation and sharing various practices and styles would lend itself well to this medium.”
Paulette now has more than 300 episodes available in archives and publishes a new episode every Tuesday.
As a meditation teacher, her radio program is the perfect outlet, she says. With listeners all over the world, Paulette believes her program and others on the UOR network reach a whole new audience with spiritual tools and ideas.
As network manager, I know firsthand about the global reach of UOR. I frequently hear from listeners, such as 45-year-old Natalia Hernández, of Mexico City, Mexico.
“I am one of those many, many listeners outside of the U.S. who benefit from the wonderful programming of your various shows. In particular, Rev Gaylon McDowell’s show Truth Transforms has helped me greatly, and I will continue to study the laws of Truth and Spirit to improve my life,” Hernández writes.
“I am ever so thankful to you in Unity that avail these amazing materials to those of us who aren’t in the U.S. For example, I live in Mexico City and there’s no Unity church in Mexico City. There’s no Universal Temple or New Thought Christianity church. So you guys are my church. Thank you.”
While not all of our hosts are Unity ministers, UOR provides an ideal platform for ministers to have their message heard by a larger audience. It’s also a great way to connect with members of your own congregation who are not able to make it to weekly services. Listeners can reach hosts using social media or email.
An Evolving Network
Each week, we record and broadcast 30 new episodes. They are available for free and on demand to a global audience. UOR continues to offer a daily broadcast schedule. During the past two years, UOR has also become a thriving podcast network. We recently reached a content milestone with more than 10,000 spiritual episodes available in our archives. Nearly 150,000 downloads occur on our website monthly and through other major podcast directories, such as iTunes.
As a UOR host, you’ll be part of an impressive network of inspiring Unity leaders, as well as some the most insightful New Thought leaders including Eckhart Tolle, Deepak Chopra, Michael Bernard Beckwith, Lynne Twist and Gregg Braden.
Structuring a Podcast Series
Paulette recalls being very nervous before her first episode. Afterward, she jokes that she felt as though she had shared everything she knew about meditation and prayer in that one episode. But since then she has managed to come up with fresh and engaging content each week.
Paulette chooses a theme each year. This year it’s “A Year of Blissful Living.” Each month she explores different aspects of the theme as it relates to meditation or spiritual practice. Her show has three segments, segued by music that is in keeping with the theme.
“The music is a big hit with our listeners,” she says, adding listeners generally buy the featured tunes. The first segment of her show is a “Thought for the Day” and sometimes features a guest. The second part is a meditation segment. The third is a prayer segment during which she prays affirmatively with listeners who have emailed requests. She also features an affirmative prayer treatment for the month.
Beyond helping listeners, hosting the show has also been beneficial for her, Paulette says.
“It keeps me creative in terms of ideas, production of the show, episode titles, and descriptions, and it has connected me with people I may not have otherwise encountered to share their wisdom,” she says. “It taps me into my past life as a journalist, especially when it comes to creating my script or interviewing guests.”
If you have a desire to use UOR as a tool to repurpose your teachings and to reach a large, diverse global audience, then apply to become a host. I look for people who have a high level of passion and understanding around a particular topic or a message that will create spiritually enriching content for our UOR listeners.
While you don’t need a background in radio, you must be comfortable presenting your topic for about 45 minutes to an hour. Don’t worry, though—we’ll help you! UOR staff support includes a network engineer as well as audiovisual and Web design specialists.
Worried about sustaining a solo effort? Consider having a cohost or panel. One example of this format is Metaphysical Romp with Rev Paul Hasselbeck, who is joined by the husband-and-wife team of Revs Cher and Bil Holton. The energy between these three is obvious. It feels like a conversation among friends over coffee. While the dialogue between the hosts is relaxed, they’re intentional and make sure the audience gains new information, insight and understanding.
Other Ways to Use UOR

UOR is an invaluable spiritual education tool for your congregants too. I encourage you to direct them to UOR so they have around-the-clock access to thought-provoking and affirmative messages that will provide the practical wisdom they need to handle life’s challenges.
