Unity’s EarthCare Movement is grounded in the beliefs of its founders. In Christian Healing, Charles Fillmore stated, “Intelligence [is] inherent in every form, animate or inanimate…. Even rocks and all minerals have life…. We should be speaking words of truth to everything, not only to [hu]mankind but to the mineral, vegetable, and animal kingdoms.” And in Myrtle Fillmore, Mother of Unity, Myrtle is quoted, “I was almost accused of being a nature worshipper when I was a little girl… Nature is surely the glorified face of God. See the beauty about you and you do see the manifestation of the infinite mind.”
EarthCare rose from the grassroots of the Unity Movement within a ministry team of Unity Worldwide Ministries in 2007, coming from the deep desire to express Unity’s belief in our oneness with all divine life in ways that directly impact our planet home. As in so many areas of Unity, we saw the importance of walking the talk. As stated in our team’s vision statement, “All humanity lives in a spiritual consciousness that manifests as loving coexistence with all creation and care for our Earth home. We act so that every step on our planet home and through our life here is an active prayer for all divine creation.”
As we move into the challenges of the 21st century, one of the most important realities is climate change. Belatedly, but finally, more and more people are realizing the truth of Unity’s vision. As stated in the symposium Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream, “This the third planet from the sun is a remarkable place that was kind enough to yield just the right elements to sustain a phenomenon called life where each creature is as unique as this world we call home, and a day begins in much the same way for all. Perhaps in the warmth from a ray of sun or the kindness of a stranger, it occurs to you how one life touches so many others. And you begin to see how all things are connected, like the blood that unites one family, and you come to realize that mankind did not weave the web of life. We’re merely a strand in it, and whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves on the third planet from the sun.”
Now more than ever, Unity’s vision of EarthCare needs to be spread throughout the world for the betterment of all.
