“It is an exciting time in the history of Unity,” shared regional president, Ron Fritts, with the Great Lakes leaders. “We have just returned from the midyear meetings with some great news. The two organizations—Unity Worldwide Ministries and Unity World Headquarters at Unity Village are coming together in a new form that will allow us to share our message in a more powerful way with more of the world.”
On January 25 and 26, 2011, over 100 Unity leaders attended Unity Worldwide Ministries’ Forum held at Unity Village where we witnessed a new future emerging in Unity. Ministers and licensed teachers shared with staff and leaders of both organizations that there is a resounding level of support to work together to create our shared future. This echoed the over 3100 responses from the branding surveys and the feedback from the discussions at the regional meetings.
Doug Krug facilitated our journey during the Forum with wisdom and humor. He helped us to realize we write the stories we share, and focused our attention on the outcomes we want. Groups of individuals worked together and discovered that our organizations show extensive evidence that Unity Worldwide Ministries and Unity World Headquarters at Unity Village are already working together (see sidebar).
Energized and open to the invigorating possibilities, participants shared a vision dawning for Unity. “As we come together, we are expanding. We are growing beyond,” shared Laura Bennett. “We are a movement that is taking a stand in the world that ‘You can know fully who you are.’” Working with trust and harmony, Unity can serve the world in resounding ways. By working together, we can be passionately engaged and committed in embodying oneness in the Unity movement to better serve an awakening world.
Board members from Unity Worldwide Ministries and Unity World Headquarters crafted the joint statement that is shared here.
A greater expression of Unity is at hand. Centered in Spirit, we come together and now embody the Oneness that serves an awakening world. With courage and boldness fueled by Unity’s expression of Universal Truth, we step into a new day answering the call to love.
In an air of openness and flexibility, the boards of Unity Worldwide Ministries and Unity World Headquarters at Unity Village gathered for a half-day meeting the week following the Forum to explore the pathway to an integrated organization. In February both CEOs, James Trapp and Charlotte Shelton; chairs, David McArthur and Howard Caesar; and board members from both organizations including: Jim Lee, Donna Johnson, Marilyn Muehlbach, Pat Williamson, came together to explore integration options and most functional approach to creating a cohesive energy and integrated action. We invite you to hold our Unity colleagues in prayer as we continue on this path to integration.
In service to whom we’ve come here to be, another team will explore the creation of an overall mission, vision, and values. This team will incorporate input from the field, ministers, licensed teachers, regional and organizational leaders and board members. At the June convention, a presentation will be shared during our annual business meeting. Register now for convention and be a part of this significant time in our movement’s history. Visit unity.org/convention.
Although we are exploring the concept of integration, our financial operations currently remain independent of one another. We invite you to continue your support of Unity Worldwide Ministries throughout this time of creating a greater unified Unity movement. If you would like to partner with us in this initiative, we invite you to financially support this work. You can do so by going to unity.org/support.
The theme for our Unity Worldwide Ministries 2012 convention is “Pulled by a Vision.” Truly we have evidence that a new future is emerging for Unity. Unity can—and will be—a healing force in the body of humanity. “As Unity Worldwide Ministries staff, I came away from the Forum with a great sense of a real willingness that there is going to be unity within Unity,” states Kim Shawd, event planning coordinator for Unity Worldwide Ministries. “I feel that our message to the world is going to be unified, in sync, and more powerful.”
