The Unity Worldwide Ministries’ Communications Circle would like to thank Dave Colburn, previous treasurer of Unity of Fairfax, Va., for sharing with us what he would have wanted to know as a board treasurer. The questions that he asked helped tremendously in the development of this survey. We are grateful to Marti Hayes for her assistance in creating the survey on Survey Monkey and to the Unity leaders and board treasurers who took the time to respond to this survey. We also want to thank Dinah Chapman, seminary student at Unity Institute, for her time in reporting the results and generating this report. Given the limited window of time available before publication, we received a small sample population of responses; however, respondents came from a wide variety of different-sized churches. Here are some of the results that we thought might interest you.

Thanks. Helpful to see, even with the low # of responses.

Hey Elizabeth, so glad to see you’re on our Unity Leaders Journal. Thanks for all of your comments. This survey was part of a great issue focused on finances in ministry which was a collaborative effort in its creation. One of our team members was a board treasurer and really helped us to think into posts that would be helpful. You may want to click on the heading above “Financial Prosperity” for more great info. Hope to see you soon!

Enjoyed reading the survey. Interesting to see that over 70% of the churches use Quickbooks. Unity of Walnut Creek uses both Quickbooks Pro for our accounting and Quickbooks Point of Sale for our bookstore. Not sure we were invited to participate in the survey or not as I am the Bookkeeper and not the Treasurer. We also use Chuch Community Builder software for our data base manager and to trck donations. QuickBooks can do it just fine but then requires sending out annual notifications at great time and expense. With CCB the member can look up their own reports online and every donation is listed.
More than one way to skin the cat. This is what works for us but even there we are not unanimous as to the best ways.
