In a history-making move, the Sacramento Area League of Associated Muslims (SALAM) hosted Easter morning services for Spiritual Life Center of Sacramento, Calif., on Sunday, Apri1 8, 2012.
Spiritual Life Center (SLC) found itself without a church home for the most important Christian service of the year, Easter. The church’s 12-year lease expired one week before this important holy day. While searching for an Easter worship space, I had a dream where the headlines read, “Easter at the Mosque!” It compelled me to turn to the Muslim community that I and SLC had stood with in the days immediately following 9/11.
I immediately phoned Dr Metwalli Amer, executive director and founder of SALAM, to share my dream. I asked if the dream could come true by having SALAM open its facilities for an Easter Service. After checking with SALAM’s Board of Trustees, Dr Amer’s answer was yes.
